Thank you for supporting me in raising awareness and funds that will make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.

I’m participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Edmonton on May 26thto help raise money on behalf of the Alzheimer Society, so they can meet the growing demand for programs and services. These and other resources make all the difference in the way that people affected by dementia are able to manage the disease and live life to the fullest.

I am walking this year in support of my wife, Donna Tabor who was diagnosed formally with Alzheimer’s in 2017.  I was able to manage her needs until last year when I encountered an eye problem resulting is several surgeries.  Although I had arranged for her participation in a “Choice” program providing twice a week respite to attend to other tasks and had the help of daily homecare, I ultimately had to have her placed into Long Term Care on February 28th 2023 due to her advancing disease and my inability to provide her necessary care needs.

This year I have joined the Devonshire Village team and will be doing s shorter walk around a local pond in a park, gathering afterwards for fellowship, coffee and donuts provided by Management. I was not going to ask for any additional funds this year but other friends and relatives have proactively contacted me to continue with fund raising with hopes that research will result in a cure one day for this terrible disease.  Incidentally Donna was previously involved in a research project through the University of Alberta after her diagnosis with result that she has donated her brain and spinal cord for further research.
