As of 2025, it is estimated that 771 939 people have been diagnosed or are living with Alzheimer's or Dementia. Indicating that at least half of the country is affected by Alzheimer's/dementia themselves or know of someone in their lives affected by this disease. Myself included.  

Both of my grandmothers (Heather Shanahan and Judith Powell) and my aunt (Christine Illsley) were affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia—devastating diseases that slowly take away the very essence of the people we love. Watching them struggle with memory loss, confusion, and a loss of independence has been heartbreaking, and it's a reality faced by far too many families.

That’s why this May, I’ve committed to walking over 500,000 steps—half a million—to raise awareness and funds to support the fight against dementia/Ahziemer's. I chose this number because delaying the onset of dementia by just one year could prevent nearly 500,000 cases in Canada by 2050. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s at stake, and how much of a difference research and support can make. 

To celebrate my completion I will also be participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Kelowna on May 25th 2025 to continue to raise money/awareness on behalf of the Alzheimer Society.
