Thank you for supporting me in raising awareness and funds that will make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.

I’m participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Vernon to help raise money on behalf of the Alzheimer Society, so they can meet the growing demand for programs and services. These and other resources make all the difference in the way that people affected by dementia are able to manage the disease and live life to the fullest. 

My husband and I both lost our maternal grandmothers to the advancement of this disease. Both cases presented, and advanced, very differently. Although the list of symptoms and potentially progression and complicates are vast, every case differs greatly. It challenges all of us - the family and caregivers - to demonstrate patience great compassion for something that is difficult to understand and heartbreaking to witness. Each day is different than the next. These people were once fully-functioning contributing members of society and, through no fault of their own, slowly lose their independence. This is not only confusing for them but immensely terrifying. Our responsibility, and an honor quite frankly, is to support them the best we can to ensure they live out the remainder of life with as much dignity, love and compassion as possible.
