On Sunday, May 31, I’m participating in the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon’s largest fundraising event – Walk for Alzheimer’s
Me and my family are walking in support of this great organization who supported us when we were caregivers for my beloved mother who passed away last year with dementia.
Dementia encompasses a wide range of terrible diseases that significantly impact the individual but also their families. Through the Alzheimer's society, I had the great privilege of being a part of a support group made up of some of the most beautiful people and caregivers who helped me through some of my most challenging times as a caregiver. It would have been so much harder without them! I also received support over the phone from their wonderful team which included advocacy, resource sharing, information and sometimes just a kind listening ear.
The Walk provides an opportunity for communities to take action to change the future for the more than 85,000 British Columbians living with dementia and the people who care for them.
Funds raised will help provide in-person and virtual programs, services and education for families facing dementia, providing the support they need to maintain the best possible quality of life throughout the progression of the disease, as well as enabling critical research to change the future of the disease.
With your help, the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon can continue its vital work. Please consider donating in support of my walk.
