My name is Andrea, I am the Resident and Family Experience Coordinator at Lakeview Lodge in West Kelowna BC. For the last 15 years, I have provided Social Work support for patients, residents and families in hospital, care and the community, living with major neuro-cognitive disease (dementia).
On Sunday, May 31, I’m participating in the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon’s largest fundraising event – the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented by Go Auto. The Walk provides an opportunity for communities to take action to change the future for the more than 85,000 British Columbians living with dementia and the people who care for them.
I walk for our residents in long term care, patients in acute care and al of their families. I walk for my Sienna family, the team members who provide care to our residents each day with love, kindness, humor and compassion. I also walk for Joe and his family, and for Dennis who is always in my heart. I will carry your memories with me until we meet again.
Funds raised will help provide in-person and virtual programs, services and education for families facing dementia, providing the support they need to maintain the best possible quality of life throughout the progression of the disease, as well as enabling critical research to change the future of the disease.
