Dear friends and family:
I have been honoured to be asked again to serve as as volunteer Walk Chair for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's in Richmond, B.C. The Richmond Walk will be held Sunday May 25, 2025 at McRoberts Secondary School/South Arm Park, 8980 Williams Road, Richmond, with registration at 9:00 a.m., and the 3.0 km walk starting at 10:00 a.m. Following the walk, there will be a draw for door prizes, and special guests, The Raqs Bahiya bellydancing trio, will be performing a few of their popular dances. The Richmond Walk is one of 20 walks occurring across communities in B.C., and raises money in support of the estimated 70,000 British Columbians living with dementia. Please join me if you can.
This year, in addition to walking in May, my wife Karen and I have challenged ourselves to run a half-marathon on June 26th in the Vancouver Half Marathon at UBC. By doing so, we will honour people who have passed, and will acknowledge the work that must be done to ensure help and hope for the people living with the disease today. In particular, we will honour my mom, Gaye MacKinnon, who lived with Alzheimer's for almost 11 years until her passing in November 2017, and my Aunt Katherine Lonergan, who also lived with dementia for many years until her passing in August 2018. I have once again formed "Team MacKinnon-Lonergan" for those who wish to participate in the Walk and/or donate funds to the team for this worthy cause!
The funds I raise will ensure the Alzheimer Society of B.C. can continue to provide, either in-person or virtually, vital support, education and information to people living with dementia and their families. They will also enable research into the causes of and cures for dementia.
Please help me to make a difference by giving whatever you can. Please support Team MacKinnon-Lonergan!
Together, we make memories matter.
