On Sunday, May 31, I’m participating in the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon’s largest fundraising event – the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, presented by Go Auto. Right now, there are more than 85,000 British Columbians living with dementia and the people who care for them, giving me one big reason to participate in this year's Walk: to ensure that everyone - no matter where they live or what their background is, has access to the information and supports they need to navigate the dementia journey.
On top of that, I'm also completing a second - much longer walk, about a week later (June 5) with two other family members. Specifically, I'll be completing the Baden-Powell trail from end-to-end in a single day. It'll be a tough journey (by far the longest "day hike" I've ever done) and I think that's fitting, given that the dementia journey can often be long and tough - and what gets us through it is courage and teamwork.
For both of these events, I'm raising funds to help provide in-person and virtual programs, services and education for families facing dementia. I'm doing this so that they have the support they need to maintain the best possible quality of life throughout the progression of the disease, as well as enabling critical research to change the future of the disease.
With your help, the Alzheimer Society of BC and Yukon can continue its vital work. I hope you'll join me in supporting this cause!
