Five years ago, my journey began with a heavy heart.
After caring for my mother for over six years following her diagnosis of early-onset dementia, I faced one of the hardest decisions of my life—transitioning her into a nursing home. It was a moment filled with emotion, sacrifice, and reflection. But beyond that moment, something greater was born: purpose.
I made a decision beyond that day—not just to carry on, but to give back.
I knew there were countless caregivers walking a similar path, facing the same challenges, emotions, and uncertainties. I wanted to be a voice, a support system, and a source of encouragement for those who often put themselves last while caring for their loved ones.
That’s where The Unbreakable Walk began.
This walk is more than just an event—it’s a movement. It represents the resilience of caregivers everywhere. Because the truth is, caregiving is not easy. It comes with obstacles, emotional strain, and moments of exhaustion. Caregivers may bend but, DON'T BREAK. They KEEP GOING. They MOVE forward. They continue to show up with love, strength, and dedication for the people who depend on them.
That’s what being Unbreakable is all about.
Today, my determination remains as strong as ever. I am committed to doing everything I can to help caregivers move forward and live their best lives while continuing to care for their loved ones. No caregiver should feel alone on this journey.
The importance of The Alzheimer's Society and Walk for Alzheimer’s cannot be overstated. It brings communities together, raises awareness, and most importantly, provides Caregivers access to education and support networks, through essential services and programs that make a real difference in their lives.
And this is where your support matters.
Every donation—no matter the size—has a direct impact. It helps provide the tools, guidance, and care that families affected by dementia need to navigate their journey with strength and dignity. It ensures that caregivers are supported, heard, and empowered.
The UNBREAKABLE WALK is BACK ladies and gentleman and we are making EVERY STEP COUNT leading up to the weekend of May 30th at William Connell Park in Hamilton, Ontario.
You’re invited to be part of this movement. Walk with us. Stand with us. Support the cause.
And if you can’t attend, please consider donating.
Because together, we are making a difference in the lives of families affected by dementia.
Thank you for your generous commitment and support
