I am walking in the Alzheimer’s fundraiser to honour my sister-in-law, Coraline, and the struggles she and her family have endured since her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease.
Coraline was married to my older brother for more than 30 years, and over those years she became much more than an in-law — she was truly like a sister to me. She was vibrant, loving, funny, and never afraid to say exactly what she thought. She brought laughter and warmth wherever she went.
When my brother passed away, Coraline was already beginning to lose her understanding of the world around her. After his passing, her children were no longer able to manage the increasing care she needed, and she was moved into long-term care.
Today, years later, Coraline no longer recognizes her family and responds to very little. Watching her gradual decline has been heartbreaking, not only for those who love her, but especially for her children and family who continue to carry the emotional pain and stress of this disease every day.
More research, support, and resources are desperately needed for families facing Alzheimer’s. If you are able, please consider making a donation. No amount is too small, and every contribution helps bring hope for better care, support, and ultimately a cure.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
