Welcome to Kristen's Page!
Thank you for supporting me in raising awareness and funds that will make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.
Biomedical Sciences student Kristen Van Kampen goes home on weekends to see a stranger sitting in her dad’s chair. She has watched her father John change dramatically over the last two years due to his Frontotemporal Dementia with Parkinsonism.
John, a mechanical engineer, brought his computer home to work at the start of the COVID pandemic, but four months later, he announced “I can’t do this anymore.”
Several months later, he stopped talking. He has primary progressive aphasia (PPA), a neurological condition that causes a person to lose language skills, but he can answer yes or no.
“Although he can’t say hi or wave, it’s nice when other people still say hi to him,” explains Kristen.
Kristen’s family has been Walking for Alzheimer’s since 2018 to raise awareness, educate people, and to find a cure for the debilitating illness. The Alzheimer’s Society educates people on Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the other hundred kinds of dementia.
Thank you again for your generous commitment and support.
