Making Memories Matter
Mom & Dad
This year I'm walking in memory of my Mom & Dad, and Aunt Marie.
My parents were married for seventy-one years! Rarely do we hear of a marriage with that longevity! They loved each other dearly, even the last number of years with Mom's Alzheimer's and Dad's dementia.
I have many fond memories and photographs.
The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region (ASDR) had our backs to offer much appreciated assistance. The first time I went in their office in 2015, the Family Support Coordinator listened, gave advice and plenty of reading materials. A First Link Counsellor/Social Worker was in touch throughout the years, offering advice and liaising with doctors and Home Care.
I'm participating in the Walk for Alzheimer's in Whitby on May 24th to help raise funds. With your generous support the Alzheimer Society will continue offering counselling, education, support groups and social recreation programs. Assisting the individuals, care partners and families with the same care, support and guidance, that I found so necessary to navigate this dementia journey.
More and more people are being touched by Alzheimer's and other dementias in the community. There are currently, almost 12,000 people living with the disease in Durham Region.
The Alzheimer Society of Canada projects that by 2030, almost
1 MILLION Canadians will have dementia.
They could be your friends, your relatives, or yourself!
Please join me in helping the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region this May 24th.
