My parents lived and subsequently passed away with dementia. Their names were Barb and Ken - and no we didn't call her Barbie - but they heard that joke frequently. 

They met on a farm as children in Campbellford. They married, moved to Scarborough, and had three daughters. They were married for more than fifty years. And, those three daughters gave them five grandchildren, two boys and three girls. They missed weddings and babies and more babies...and they were missed. We lost them too early...

I have been a child, a parent, and a caregiver. Now I am on the other side, being able to help others experiencing those same stages. It is very rewarding to be able to fundraise in support of those currently walking in my shoes. I watch my incredibly hardworking, compassionate and caring coworkers as they help clients and caregivers alike negotiate the ups and downs on what is often a rough road of travel with dementia. 

So I walk in memory of my parents, in support of those travelling that same road currently - that they are able to live their best lives, and for the tomorrows and whatever that may bring us....

Life is never perfect but my hope is that the future brings with it an easier road for those impacted by dementia.
