I’m participating with my team, Tau Trekkers in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Whitby to help raise money for the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region.
My mother, Margaret Lunau passed away 20 years ago at the age of 72. She was robbed of a long, full life by dementia. Watching my mom deteriorate in front of my eyes, going from a strong, vibrant women to a confused, shell of herself was devastating. She forgot who we were and forgot how to do the simplest of things. She had always been the strongest woman I knew and then she was struck down by this terrible disease.
There are now nearly 12,000 people living with dementia in Durham Region, many of whom turn to the Alzheimer Society for support. Funds raised from the Walk will help provide counselling, support groups, education and social recreation programs for all those impacted by dementia in our community.
