As has become our tradition, in May, I will be participating in the annual walk for Azheimer's in honour of my late husband, Bill. Bill's dementia journey ended in November 2019 after more than 12 years. For many, however the journey is just beginning. For others it is in the uncertain in-between stage. During our journey, Bill and I benefitted immensely from the programs and services provided by Alzheimers Kingston. In his memory (and he would have loved that pun so much!), I want to make sure these services remain available to others dealing with their own losses of memory, reason and skilll.
I have the privilege of helping out with a few client support groups at the Alzheimer's Society, and I know first-hand how much these are enjoyed and valued by those living with dementia and those who find themselves in the role of Care Partners. I also know that our ability to deliver these services remains a long way from meeting the needs within our local community - meaning waiting lists for folk whose well-being can't afford to wait.
For this reason, with my fellow traveller Marty Jordan, I will once again don walking shoes as a member of Team Happy Wanderers. Marty and I would welcome your support and encouragement--with "attagirls" or donations, as your circumstances allow. You can donate to me or the team using the links below.
Please join us in our effort to raise the funds needed to maintain and grow support programs and bring light into the dark places of the dementia journey.
