Our Mom was diagnosed over 9 years ago with Alzheimer’s. It was new to us, and I wanted to get as much education and support earlier than trying to figure things out on my own. I was lost. I was then introduced to Geralynne at the Alzheimer’s Society who was a godsend to me and my family and still is a big part of our life. I’ve attended all the educational programs over the years and feel that it helped me along the way figuring things out. My godsend was Minds in Motion, and I would take my mom to as many as possible. The adult program is now a good fit for my mom, I feel like a veteran now in the Alzheimer’s world and couldn’t have done this rough road without the support from our local Alzheimer’s society. To all caregivers, please take advantage of the group just for caregivers. There is nothing better for the soul than to chat with folks travelling through this rough patch in our lives, take it from me.  I find it hard and troubling sometimes trying to talk to friends and family members who have no idea what I am going through. I recommend people who are in the same boat sign up for as much as they can possibly handle, it sure helps us all down the path of this brutal disease.

My family and I will be participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Smiths Falls on 25th of May to help raise money on behalf of the Alzheimer Society, so they can meet the growing demand for programs and services. These and other resources make all the difference in the way that people affected by dementia are able to manage the disease and live life to the fullest.
