A lot has changed in 2025 for me. Howie is gone, but the need for support for others is not. Howard’s passing, at McCormick, was at least peaceful. Howie died after being at our home for nearly 8 years with the illness, at Glendale Crossing for almost 2 years and at McCormick for the remaining years. While he was at home, he participated in several programs at the Alzheimers Society Southwest Partners. He was in the middle stage, and although he continued to decline, to the the point that I couldn't get him off the floor, by myself, when he fell, it also became dangerous for both of us. Howard’s professionals said it was time to move to long term care. It’s not easier, but it is safer. When you've met one Alzheimer's patient, you've met ONE Alzheimer's patient. They have commonalities, but they also have many differences.
