Thank you for supporting my family's journey to fight Alzheimer’s disease. As many of you know, this horrid disease struck my family when my dad was 59 and first diagnosed - far too young. When people first heard that my dad had fallen victim to this disease, they were often just as shocked to hear of his diagnosis due to his age and because of the lifestyle he lived. But Alzheimer's, much like other diseases, does not discriminate - it welcomes anyone. And where it differs is that there is NO cure and there are NO survivors. Something we were reminded of all too well in July 2018 when we lost my dad, my hero.  I miss him and think of him everyday and will continue to honour him in every way possible, including walking in his memory.

By 2031, 1.4 million Canadians will have dementia. Once again, I have committed to participating in this years Walk for Alzheimer’s because we need to do better. We need to fight for our loved ones who can no longer fight for themselves - we need to further support the research and find a cure! In addition to this, we need to continue to provide programs and services to not only those with this disease, but to their caregivers as well - people like my loving momma who in some ways, suffered just as much if not more.

The Alzheimer Society of Peel provides essential programs and services that work to effectively alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias within our community.
