I’m participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Stratford on May 24 to help raise money on behalf of the Alzheimer Society, so they can meet the growing demand for programs and services. These and other resources make all the difference in the way that people affected by dementia are able to manage the disease and live life to the fullest.  

For several years I walked for my Uncle, Ome Arie, who passed away last year from complications caused by his Alzheimer's.  I still walk for him and for my Aunt, Tante Riek, and for their family.  Although his memories had faded, their memories of their husband/father/Opa will not fade.  Also, this year, I walk for Anne and Harry and David and more people I know or are indirectly connected to who have begun to accept the onset of memory loss, Alzheimer's and dementia.  My heart goes out to them as they learn to cope with the slow forgetting and, possibly even more, my heart goes out to the families who support them. So I am walking for the families, for the ones who experience the roller coaster of challenges and emotions that are part of an Alzheimer's diagnosis on a daily basis.  I wish to honour their journey by helping raise funds and awareness for the programs offered by the Alzheimer's Society which make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia, their caregivers and families.
