On May 30, 2026, I will be joining the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s at Orchard Pavilion in Downsview Park to support the thousands of Torontonians living with dementia. It is a cause that has been near and dear to our family for many years.
My mother, Dianne, was diagnosed with Dementia in 2012, and our family accessed a number of supports and services from the Alzheimer's Society while she was still living at home. Mom participated in the Walk for Alzheimer's with us for a few years before the difficult move into long term care in 2018. After a long slow decline, Mom passed away in January 2026.
After losing Dianne, my father pretty much stopped walking and eating, and became more confused. Losing his wife after 54 years must have been unimaginably difficult. After a brief stay in hospital, Dad passed away in March 2026. Although this will be year of firsts and we miss them both terribly, we have to take comfort in the possibility that they are together again.
The demand for specialized programs and services is growing every day. Dementia and Alzheimer's are on the rise in Canada. By donating to my goal, you are directly supporting those impacted by dementia and ensuring no one has to navigate this journey alone in the future. Your generosity provides a lifeline for caregivers and families across the city. Please click the yellow Donate button to contribute today.
Thank you for supporting our team, our family, and our participation in the Walk for Alzheimer's. It is much appreciated.
