Once again this year I will be participating in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in Toronto on Saturday May 30, 2026 to support Alzheimer Society of Toronto.
This is something that’s near and dear to my heart. My grandmother Joan Rynkun was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 77 and lived over 20 years battling this horrible disease. As a young boy who was very close with my grandparents, I saw firsthand the devastating effects of the progressions of Alzheimer’s disease and the challenges it creates for everybody who is part of the support network for those suffering. Joan was a strong woman who rode it out to the bitter end. Doing this walk in her memory is one small thing I can do to help raise awareness so that the impacts of this disease can continue to hopefully be reduced.
Your donation will help fund the growing demand for programs and services offered through the Alzheimer Society of Toronto. These services make all the difference in the way that people affected by dementia can manage the disease and live life to the fullest. For example, one of the initiatives supported which holds a parallel importance in my life (and was a key part of my grandmother’s life) is music – Musical memory is sometimes undamaged by dementia. Music therapy programs focused on listening to and engaging in music can bring joy to a person living with dementia and help create connections with friends and family.
Last year the team I walked with raised over $37,000 to help fund programs that enhance and enrich the lives of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients, their families, and caregivers.
Thank you for your support!
