I’m walking for Mavis.
When my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I was young and didn't fully understand the disease. All I knew was that it felt like it was robbing her of who she was, stripping away her ability to express her authentic self.
That experience stayed with me. For the past five years, I’ve served as a PSW, working daily with people living with Alzheimer’s. I’ve spent countless hours reorienting patients, listening to their fictional stories, and getting to know the incredible people behind the diagnosis. Now, as I finish my nursing studies, my commitment has only grown stronger.
I am walking to honour my Grandmother Mavis, the patients I have lost, and the patients I care for today. Please help me support the Alzheimer Society so we can protect the 'authentic selves' of those we love.
