Lee Michele Hetherington (née Jackson) passed away on September 23rd 2022, peacefully in her sleep after many years of contending with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Kitchener on April 3rd, 1953. She is the wife of David Hetherington and loving mother to her extended family of Jacqueline, Lindsay (Mike), Gregory (Kelly) and Matthew (Katrina), and loving grandmother to Mason, Avery, Taylor, Lyla, Logan, Carter, Sophie and Zoey.

Lee, as a teenager, loved athletics, playing on the school volleyball team and spending her summers going to riding camp. She continued her love for riding in her adult years with her wonderful horse Joker, on the trails of the Caledon Hills.

Although she much preferred her horse, she acquiesced to husband David’s love for sailing by cheerfully enduring many sailing trips all around Lake Ontario, rain or shine. But what they both loved to do was travel together in Europe, walking, exploring antique shops and satiating Lee’s love for art in many galleries. A highlight for every March was their annual trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Lee loved to work, and after a short stint at modelling, took up real estate in 1979 as a full time occupation, which she loved to do because she took great pleasure in finding just the right house for every one of her clients. Later as the sales manager for Harvey Kalles Real Estate, she prided herself in matching clients with just the right representative in her office. Her caring and respectful manner with agents and clients alike gained her the reputation of being one of the finest real estate managers in all of Toronto.

Everyone who knew Lee always remarked on how much she loved children. She knew how to talk to them and was extremely patient while listening to everything they had to say. In her bag and in a special drawer in her office there were always treats, games and colouring books for them.

Lee loved life, loved people and could talk to anyone about anything. With her prodigious memory she never forgot anyone’s name, and when seeing them even years later she would remember what they talked about the first time they met. After meeting any of her husband’s long time colleagues she would learn more about them in 5 minutes than he knew after 20 years.

The irony is that the Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of what was one of her strongest assets; however, she never lost her love of children or people. We all will miss her terribly.
