I am taking part in a walk for the Alzheimer’s Society to honor my uncle, who is currently living with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). This cause is deeply personal to me, as dementia is a disease that has affected my family for generations. My uncle’s specific diagnosis, FTD, is different from what many people expect; it primarily affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, having it come on much earlier than expected in life and leads to significant changes in personality, behaviour, and language rather than just memory loss. It is a challenging journey to witness, and I want to use this walk to bring awareness to the unique hurdles that FTD presents.
This walk is incredibly important to me because awareness is the first step toward better support and understanding. By sharing my uncle’s story and our family’s history, I hope to raise both awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. The money raised goes toward research into treatments, as well as providing essential support services and expert advice for families who are navigating the complexities of a dementia diagnosis.
Every donation helps ensure that the Alzheimer's Society can continue being a lifeline for those who feel overwhelmed or isolated by this disease. Whether you are able to donate or help spread the word, I am grateful for your support.
