Alzheimer’s and dementia have been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My first experience with this disease was as a young girl, watching my beautiful nana, with her hair white like snow, slowly change. I remember how often my grandma went to care for her, and even then, I could see how much support she needed. I did not fully understand it at the time, but I could feel the impact it had on our family.
As I grew older and became a registered nurse, I met many individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. With each person, my empathy deepened, not only for those experiencing the disease, but also for the families walking alongside them.
Later in life, both of my grandmothers, women I deeply admire, were affected by Alzheimer’s. Watching someone you love become fearful and uncertain in those early stages is something I would never wish on anyone.
Today, I have the privilege of working with an incredible team of caregivers. Every day, we support individuals and families navigating this disease with compassion, dignity, and care.
I am honoured to be part of this walk with a team I am so proud of.
ParaMed stands in the fight against Alzheimer’s, and so do I.
