I’m thrilled to be participating in this year’s IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s on May 30th in York Region. 41% of Canadians have a personal connection to dementia. This is something my family, like many others, has experienced firsthand.
My grandmother, Nanny Scott, lived with vascular dementia for a number of years before her passing in 2012. A Cape Breton native, I remember my Nanny as a beacon of connection and community. As a child, I didn’t fully understand what was happening when she would mix up names or other details. Despite this, to this day I can recall her constant efforts to build relationships with those she loved.
Even in the 14 years since her passing, Nanny Scott has continued to be a pillar that brings our family together. In recent months, as I’ve taken on a professional role with the Alzheimer Society of York Region, I’ve found myself feeling more connected to my Nanny through my day-to-day tasks. It means so much to walk in her honour, while also helping to support the growing need for programs and services in York Region.
Thank you for whatever donation you can make. No matter how small or big, you are making a difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their caregivers.
Thank you.
